to knit or not to knit

why hello!


I really need to post more. Anyways, my week/month is still jammmmm packed and I am still being very unproductive. Instead of doing my art history notes all sunday, I ended up watching Netflix and crocheting. So productive! 


I also discovered http://fyeahartstudentowl.tumblr.com which is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. A sarcastic smoking owl and art school jokes, genius.  


This is my favorite for today:  

BASICALLY, how i felt about my fibers sculpture and critique. Hell, I spend 20 hours on the sculpture and after listening to everyone else's critique while not trying not to pass out from lack of sleep and food...they critique the fucking foam board i brought it in on. THE FOAM BOARD. Not the actual sculpture, but the white foam board. Thanks. thanks a lot. I'm just gonna go kill myself now. and I couldn't even say anything because the rule was that the artist couldn't talk during the critique. ugh. Oh well at least its over. Here are some final/work in progress photos!

taping down and making shape with boxes and a jar. I covered it with Elmer's mixed with water so it hardened. Boy did that take long to dry, I had my hand glued to the hairdryer the whole night.

night lights

New photos, finally! 

Its been a busy busy week and its going to be an even busier month! I break down every time I make my daily to-do lists or check my calendar AHH. projects. essays. sunday make up classes (snow days) and most important of all...fashion dept. interview/portfolio review. I have 4 weeks to prepare and make at least one more outfit or piece for my portfolio, including more illustration and fabric swatches. I will not panic. 

Anyways, my boyfriend visited last week and besides hermitting for 80% of the time we went to Navy Pier with some friends and rode the ferris wheel :)It was so deserted but the lights were just too pretty. Here are some photos I took with my Minolta XG-1 (the first 3 are edited)

Film-tas-tic

This kid is so creative and his photos are amazing.His tumblr is filled with photos and various tricks he tries on photos and developing film. After scrolling through basically the whole blog...I just wanted to grab my new Minolta baby I got for christmas and clickclickclick! I still have half a roll left on it but hopefully I will have time this weekend to take baby Minolta out. AHHH too many projects due, including a sculpture due next week using either rope, crocheting or knitting. ah ah ah okay well 

here are some photos that I really enjoyed :) 

The next few are burned and look so cool .I love how he incooporated the burn marks into each photo. Definitely trying some burnin' and collage with my old photos!

I love this effect/trick. He boiled the film for two minutes and then developed them. It shows up as red streaks and dots on the developed photos and it just looks so cool! I've heard of other artists soaking the film but never boiling it.

The weather is still painfully cold, meaning the worst for photo taking in my case. 

1. It makes me just want to curl up in my bed forever and hibernate

and 

2. Exploring and snapping pictures isn't as fun when your fingers are frozen mmh :(

Anyways, here are some pictures of Chicago taken with my Holga from last semester! I love playing around with the double (and sometimes triple) exposure. Definitely a fun camera to just goof off and carry around with you.

first college.

That is my school's mascot. A red square. Haha well, not really...but it should be. Just because we're so consheptual.

So, second semester into SAIC what have I learned? That I haven't produced enough work to make my daddy proud. Sorry, Dad. This must change this semester! More paintings, more sketching, more workbooking, more sewing more...you get the point. and hopefully it will be good enough for me to share it with on here!

Blue Sheet, Riva Lehrer

Overall a pretty interesting class, getting a lot of practice with the figure. She knows a lot about anatomy which is different from other figure drawing classes i've taken. Check out her work!

I was so excited for this class because textiles/fiber and material studies was what I originally came here to do. However, so far, it just feels like knitting club. Once we move in to surface design though...

Core Studio II

Its a continuing class from last semester; pretty relaxed. We are currently working on stop motion animation which is super fun!
