The Last Stretch

It's December! It's Crit Week! It's all...just a mess!

So, I thought I would take some time off being stressed out and update this good ole' blog of mine. Recent epiphanies include, ditching graphic design/visual communication all together and just focusing on drawing and illustration. I actually have a career advising meeting in about...seven hours. I'm desperately hoping it will enlighten me and guide me in my internship search for the summer. I can't believe i'm applying for internships again, I feel like summer and working at ZenWu was not so long ago...sigh. Depressing rant over. I should think of more exciting things to blog about hehe

I found some black and whites from a roll I developed last semester. The majority Olympus E-PM1 Pen 12MP 3X Optical Zoom Black Digital Camera (Google Affiliate Ad)are scattered pictures of Chicago and the middle ones are my friend's performance piece! I'm still shopping for a new film camera...I should probably learn to load my film properly too

To all students, good luck on your final papers/presentations/exams/critiques!! Hang in there guys, Christmas is reeeeealllll soon.

I can't wait to get on that plane back to Hong Kong.

Love,
Addie

Tablet Play

Tablet tablet tablet! I finally got a tablet. The Wacom Intuos 4 to be more specific. However, due to the fact that my Macbook is a little very fracked up, it has been extremely frustrating running photoshop and the tablet. Right now, I am holed up in the computer lab on the fashion floor and I'm pretty sure this is my new haven. I am currently staring at 27 inches of luxury~...and then I am going home to my 13 inches of a Lag-book.

Anyways, I just spent my Friday afternoon playing with Photoshop and I thought I would share what I came up with!

I'm pretty satisfied with it, what do you guys think?

Happy weekend everyone :3

Year Three

Warning! Long wordy post.

I am currently sitting in my new apartment (yay, no more dorms!) contemplating what I should share about my return to school. It's the third year of college, third year of art school and the third year of Chicago. I am determined to find my artistic niche and I will not be unemployed when I graduate!!! As much as I would love to live in some European countryside, travel and make art all day and all night. Shit iz getting real.

Good news though! I have decided to stick with illustration and visual communication classes. I'm only taking two studios this semester, The Illustrated Poster and Natural History Illustration. I am actually really enjoying Natural History Illustration because all we do is draw and paint at the Field Museum and other locations like The Garfield Park Observatory or the zoo. We just finished off the plant sections and we're moving on my mammals next, wee! Illustrated Posters has been a lot of comic, story and figure work. It's been difficult adjusting from fashion illustration figures to real people proportions but I'm getting there!

Other than school, I just finished reading the Perks of Being a Wallflower. Completely ignored my science homework but I was so hooked I finished in two evenings. Now I just need to convince one of my friends to watch the movie with me :)

Now that I am back in Chicago and the warm weather has well, gone into hiding for the next 8 months, I will definitely be crawling back into my hermit shell. It is hibernation season. That is all. I will try and post more (I will really really try this time) but, probably less outdoorsy adventures and more lardy (hibernation) adventures.

But before I (really) go. I leave you (yes, you!) a quote from our dear friend Mr. Fitzgerald because well, he sums up why my companions for the winter months ahead will be my book list, amazon prime membership and Kindle. I'm trying to watch less tv and am canceling my Netflix account SOON.

I am off to make dinosaur noises and decipher why people say "knock on wood" with my roommate. Goodbye.

Painting Tunes

It's been a rainy couple of days. The kind of days where I wish I had a huge covered patio that I could read and paint under while it rained heavily around me. As much as I enjoyed relaxing at home to Harry Potter (hehe), I was so bummed that I didn't get to go to the zoo or Botanical Gardens. So my dear Singapore, pleaseplease stop raining so I can enjoy my last week here...

Today, I vill share tunes from my 8tracks favorite list. These playlists have been accompanying me on my larding adventures. A wee bit of everything but mostly oldies and then french songs :)

The first one is by Tavi Gevinson! For those of you who do not know her, she is a fashion/lifestyle blogger who I lovelovelove. and shes only 16? Check out her blog The Style Rookie or her online magazine she started called Rookie Mag

Happy listening, i'm off to finish my painting xx

Drawings of Fashun

Last official day at work!

I'm excited to have some free time before I go back to Hong Kong but, also a wee bit sad to leave. Working at Zen Wu Design has definitely helped me narrow down my choices of courses at school. Still going to stick with illustration but, I have decided to switch my ceramics class for a Visual Com. class. Hopefully it won't be as boring as Intro to Viscom?

On another note, I guess I'll have to save Multilevel Fashion Illustration for next semester :/ I still have my mound of Science and Social Studies credits to finish and squeeze into my schedule. Poo.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from Fashion Illustration last semester. Just marker and pen, 30-45 minutes with a live model. I actually prefer the under drawings (on the right) that are like a preliminary sketch I put under the final to get the "feel" of the piece first.

I shall be off now!...to watch some more Olympics and slack off on my last day hehe

Oh and I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but I finally updated my portfolio site. It is still kind of messy and well...filled with random stuff but check it out anyways :)

Eating my way to Malaysia

Hi-dee-ho!

So, you know how I was super excited to go buy Harry Potter and smell old books at the second hand bookstore after work yesterday? They were all closed... :( All the stores (with Indian owners) had closed early for fasting because of Hari Raya. Aiya, I guess I'll wait.

On the other hand! I started reading the Hobbit hehe during my trip to Malaysia last Saturday. It was just a day trip on a eating+shopping tour with my Auntie's colleagues. I ate so. much. The whole day was literally traveling on the bus, stopping at farms/factories and tasting/buying heaps of food.

Lunch was only durian and fruit. That shit cray.

This is my grandma on the bus :)
Mushroom farm.
Durian buffet lunch!

Have a happy day and enjoy some tunes! xx

Vietnom

Doing a second post today because sadly, I am bored at work. I've finished the projects my boss had me working on and now I am just killing time till my last day (Wednesday) hehe. Technically I am supposed to be working on the red packets designs but, I need a breather.

So, here are some more of my film photos from my Cambodia/Vietnam trip! The previous post was Cambodia so these are from Vietnam. Firstly, can I just say that Vietnamese people are so so so nice. Everyone we spoke to was so friendly and helpful, it really made the trip that (<------>) much better. And of course all the food was absolutely scrumptious, despite all the walking we did I definitely gained weight. I loss count of how many "Oh, this is just a pre-meal snack" Banh Mis we had. Sew goode.

From Cambodia we proceeded to Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Hanoi and then Ha Long Bay. I lovedddd Hanoi, I can definitely see myself moving and living there some point in my life. Getting a huge studio in the old city and just wandering, ahhhh. The old city reminded me so much of Shanghai's French Concession although, it made me a wee bit sad because I wasn't going back to Shanghai this summer.

I will stop blabbering on about this amazing country and trip now. So as per usual, enjoy the pictures :)

Oh hayhayhay and check out my 500px page! I have not put many photos on it yet but heeeeyyyy check it out please ----> www.500px.com/addiechong

Also, I need this shirt. Its so kewl, no?

And its 6pm! End of yet another work day and I am off to the second hand book store with the angry Indian owners to find Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  I will report back if I find any deliciously old beautiful books.

xx
